Your Grief Coach/Educator
I will start with my journey on how and why I became a Grief Support Companion. I lived almost 20 years in an extremely dysfunctional marriage. Then, in 2017, my ex-spouse and I went through a very controversial separation and divorce, ending with our two children being parentally alienated from me because he moved them over 2,000 kilometres away. Making it extremely challenging to maintain a healthy, loving, and close relationship with our two children. With my number 1 priority, my family, gone. I" slipped into a deep depression.
What do most of us do when this happens in our lives?
As a result of the pain and unbearably distressing emotions I had developed. I participated in many, many years of therapy and counselling. Only to feel stuck in the past, and no way of moving forward. I was still asking myself....
-
How long will these emotions and feelings last?
-
How do I get over this feeling of loss?
-
How do I manage my overwhelming and disorienting feelings when I am looking for a way forward?
My successful outcome
This led me to seek out other forms of support. And what I found is that educating myself about grief was the tool I needed in our grief-illiterate society, which typically tells us, "You'll get over it", or "you'll eventually move on", or "Time will heal your pain". Without the love, care, and support of my very dear and close friends, who picked me up out of the dirt, dusted me off, and put me back into the ring again. In addition to educating myself about grief and learning the proper coping strategies that fit my needs. I would still be in a deep depression, or maybe worse.
Supporting others with compassion and empathy
That was how my idea of helping others living with grief was born. Realizing with my years of experience living with grief, educating myself about grief, and my passion to share and help others, led me to become a Grief Coach.
If you're new to this universal life experience, then bless you for being brave and being present. My heart goes out to you. And for those of you who are not new to this concept, bless you for being brave and being present. My heart goes out to you.
